The Lummis Sofa
05.15.26
The Los Angeles writer and preservationist Charles Lummis built his home El Alisal by hand from the river stones of the Arroyo Seco beginning in 1897, and it still stands today. The Lummis Sofa takes its name from his conviction that what is built carefully is built to last. Our skilled artisans carry that same principle into each component of the sofa’s construction.
The solid alder hardwood frame, chosen for its stability and longevity, is integrated with zigzag wire and tension springs beneath the seat to distribute weight evenly and maintain their integrity under years of daily use. High-resilience foam cushions, free of flame retardants and harmful chemicals, provide consistent support while the deep seat and canted back work together to encourage a relaxed posture without sacrificing composure. The sofa rests on round solid wood legs, available in maple or walnut, every detail is as carefully considered as the craft behind it.
